Seminar:
Game-Time Decisions: Modern Management of Acute Athletic Injuries
A 2-day, hands-on course for the practitioner who wants to walk onto the field, into the training room, and into the treatment room knowing exactly what to do next.
🗓️ November 7 - 8, 2026
📍 Midwest Movement | 2929 N 204th St Ste 117, Elkhorn, NE 68022
A 2-day, hands-on course for the practitioner who wants to walk onto the field, into the training room, or into the treatment room and know exactly what to do next.
Most practitioners freeze a little when an athletic injury walks through the door.
And this really comes down to not being taught how to make the right call.
The right call looks like making the gam time decision of when to push and when to rest, when imaging is worth it and when it's just going to slow everyone down, and how to read an athlete's risk instead of guessing at it.
That decision hesitation can cost you the trust of the coaches, athletic trainers, and parents that watch to see if you know what you’re doing, and it can cost the athlete time on the field.
Many seminars teach theory; I teach on lived experience and will give you actionable systems you can implement on Monday when you get back to the office.
I spent years working sideline and in the training room with high school and college athletes, sitting inside the exact decisions this course is built around:
→ Return to play or shut it down.
→ Order imaging or wait and watch.
→ Push the tissue or protect it.
I built “The Functional Triage” because I got tired of hesitation and of watching other good clinicians do the same. This course is that system, taught the way I wish someone had taught it to me.
Meet Your Teacher:
Dr. Taylor Premer
“If you’re considering care with Dr. Premer, I can confidently say you’re in great hands. I worked closely with him for several years as he assisted our sports medicine team at our local high school. Both athletes and coaches came to trust him deeply, not only for his expertise, but also for the genuine care he showed on the sidelines and in their personal treatment.”
“He and his team not only administered treatment to our athletes, but they also worked with our athletes and coaches in the areas of injury prevention, strength and conditioning, and nutrition. Dr. Premer has made such a huge impact on our student-athletes.”
The 2-Day Schedule:
Day 1: Principles of Acute Athletic Injury Care
Saturday, November 6 | 9am - 5pm
This is the foundation. The thinking that applies to every acute injury, no matter which body part walks in the door.
Building a systematic assessment you run on every patient, every time
Early weight bearing: what the evidence actually supports
Imaging: when it matters, when it doesn't, and how to talk about it with confidence
Heat vs. ice, and why the "ice everything" default is outdated
Injury predictor patterns and return-to-play criteria
Situational IQ: reading the athlete, the stakes, and the environment, not just the tissue
Hands-on lab: live assessment practice with partner coaching
Day 2: Injury-Specific Clinical Pearls
Sunday, November 7 | 8am - 12pm
This is where it gets hyper-specific. We go case-based, region by region, with hands-on labs woven throughout, including dry needling demonstration, taping, and manipulation.
Lower body: ankle sprains, hip and FAI, knee ligament injuries and return-to-play timelines
Upper body: shoulder derangement and AC joint care, medial elbow pain differentials
Spine: spondylolisthesis and pars defects, intra-abdominal pressure strategy
Concussion: exam, assessment, and symptom-specific care
Every region is taught the same way: actual patient cases, a clear decision-making framework, and hands-on practice you leave able to use immediately.
Optional Morning Workouts
Before each day of the course, Midwest Movement is opening its doors for optional group workouts. Come early, move, and start the day warmed up before we dig in. It’s also a great way to network with others taking the course. This is not required.
By the end of the weekend, you will:
Run a systematic, repeatable assessment on any acute athletic injury instead of guessing your way through it
Know when early weight bearing helps and when it sets an athlete back
Make a confident call on imaging instead of avoiding it or over-ordering it
Read return-to-play readiness using injury predictor patterns, not just pain scores
Apply hands-on techniques (manipulation, taping, and dry needling demonstration) to the most common acute presentations: ankle, shoulder, spine, hip, knee, elbow, and concussion
Build the sideline relationships and referral trust that turn one game into a long-term practice
